Today and the people’s house the cornerstone of today’s thought:

On today’s date in 1792, George Washington laid the Cornerstone of the Executive Mansion that would become known as The White House. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_house)

The White House stands for the principals set forth in our founding documents. It stands for freedom and it should stand for truth. It stands for the Constitution and it stands for the Bill of Rights. It stands as the people’s house. It was constructed by the people for the people.

There have been many Presidents since the founding that have lived in the residence and that have served their country from the people’s house. Some have been greater than others and some have endured themselves to history, because of what the House stands for.

There have been some dark days that have befallen the White House and there have been some bright days that made that house the beacon of hope for the world.

The history of the nation is reflective of the inhabitant of this House. The history of the world since this House was dedicated has been reflective of the inhabitant. This House has withstood all the history that it has seen, since the day it was dedicated 218 years ago.

Our first President, George Washington, never lived in the House, but the aura of his spirit is all around that building. Spirit is one thing, but ideology and beliefs are something altogether different.

We all have a spirit. A spirit makes us accomplish things. A spirit can inspire us to do great things and a spirit is what makes a soul complete. However, ideology and beliefs come in many forms. If Washington had a desire to set the great forces of government upon us, we would know no different today. If Washington’s beliefs were to use the office of the presidency to distort truth and set forth rumors in October, we would know no different. But Washington didn’t. That is why we know the difference between liberty and tyranny today. This is why at every turning point in our history, liberty has won over tyranny.

Every president has had to keep secrets in this House. Every president has conducted a form of war from that House, be it domestic or foreign. Every president has spent long hours awake and sometime alone in the depths of darkness, when the sun did not shine on that House. Every president, I hope, had his country’s best interest in mind when he entered that House, but not every president went into that House wanting to fundamentally change the country.

Not every president has lost his base, because of failure and not every president has had his men go into the gutter to attack and assassinate the character of his opponents.

David Axelrod, the president’s advisor and one of the few in the inner circle, went on the attack to drop the October surprise. His attack came in the question of where is the opposition getting it’s money to attack democratic candidates? When asked by Bob Schieffer if he had any proof, Axelrod retorted: “do you have any proof that says it is not happening?”

I didn’t want to necessarily bring this topic up today, because every talk show and every pundit has made comment on this. So why should I be different? I bring this up, because we fail to remember our history.

It was Washington who set the seeds of government. It was Washington who warned us against false allegiance. It was Washington who said he would use the Constitution as his guide. There have some presidents who have not used the Constitution as their guide.

A president is elected every four years. There is a reason for this and we are living that reason now. Washington knew it then and it still holds true to today. When a president and his men launch attacks on fellow citizens with innuendo and false facts then it is time for the electorate to change its government. This is why the White House was built for temporary residence and this is why it is called the People’s House.

When the president and his men conspire to hatch these plots they not only thwart our system, but they denigrate the spirit of Washington. When the president’s men hatch these plans and the president approves of them we are no better than the nations that we have been at war with over freedom and liberty. We are no better than the type of rule that we fought our independence over. We are no better, because we have been placed in the gutter.

The mantra for this president was “Hope and Change”. Unfortunately, that has changed to fear and smear. When we vote in November, we have new choices. We do have choices that will bring a change and the choices are real. One of these choices just might end up in the White House. I can assure you that the choices we have in November are far better than the choice the people had in Illinois when this President was asked to serve in the Senate. You see, elections do have consequences and Washington knew it.

A footnote: I believe in less than three weeks we will have our government back. We will have the spirit that Washington gave us because his spirit is what we fight for.
