Hold on to your hat!

Hold on to your hat!

The expression, “Hold on to Your Hat”, is meant as an expression, warning someone of a big surprise. This expression may allude, according to lexicographer Eric Partridge, to a wild ride on a rollercoaster.

This is what we can expect everyday up to the midterms. The fist surprise is that Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagen has been recused in hearing 25 of the 53 cases before the Supreme Court in this session. This is the right thing to do, seeing that she was the Solicitor General for the United States in the Obama Administration. But when did this administration ever do the right thing?

Could it be that when she was nominated it was known that she would be sitting on the bench when certain cases came before the Court? Could it be that she is recused from hearing these cases, because of her past involvement, a tie decision might occur?
Was it a calculated maneuver on the part of the President to have a split court until he could appoint another Justice?

The Court could have a 4 – 4 tie vote on many of these cases. The two cases that come to mind are the Arizona Immigration Law case and the Free Speech case about war protests at the funerals of fallen soldiers. To the Conservative, immigration is a one sided issue, as is the free speech case. Why let illegal’s in the country and let them have the rights that legal, rightful Americans enjoy? Is it right that people can protest against a war at funerals of the fallen soldiers that defend the protestor’s free speech rights? The only issue here is what happened to good taste, sympathy and the sacred honor of laying down the dead?

If you had any question about the danger of what progressive liberalism presents, look at these cases and determine for yourself the legal and moral issues. If you had any question about the danger of what progressive liberalism presents, consider the possibility of what the President can do with nominating a single Supreme Court Justice.

Hold on to your hat, because we are about to see what the votes are and how the liberal will interpret law and how the conservative side will try to preserve the law.

On today’s date, in 1777, General George Washington began the assault on German Town, Pennsylvania. The assault ended in defeat. Washington suffered the loss of 1,073 patriots. The British losses numbered 521 killed or wounded. The loss ended the American hopes of recapturing Philadelphia and forced Washington to fall back and regroup. In the wake of the Philadelphia Campaign, Washington and the Army went into winter quarters at Valley Forge. Though beaten at German Town, American fortunes changed later that month with the key victory at the Battle of Saratoga.

I bring up this story, because a revolution is like a rollercoaster and we must be prepared to regroup and push ahead. As the President will regroup in November, with possible historic losses, we must remember what our history is and how to hang on to our hats when a surprise occurs.

There was a demonstration at the Mall in Washington D.C. this past weekend. Some of you might have heard about it and, if you haven’t, it was sponsored by the SEIU, the Service Employees International Union. Some Union members were forced to attend and you can make sure that Union dues were used to transport and sponsor this event. What wasn’t shown on the news were the other signs of the SEIU that were intermingled with signs of the Communist Party of America and other Socialist Unions. What wasn’t shown was the trash that was left by the sympathetic left who displays concerns over our environment.

I often wonder what the patriots for freedom would think of today’s protests and the appointment of politicos to our courts. I wonder if men like Washington would wish for a mighty wind to rise and just blow all of this away. If they did you can rest assured that they would hold on to their hats and regroup!

The winds of October are beginning to blow. The winds of October will make way for a changing wind in November.

A footnote: Hold on to your hat! There will be more surprises coming in the next 28 days!
