Strike three and the final pitch!
This week I am relating a conversation with someone I know who is a liberal and who reads the FORUM every now and then. Steve is middle aged and works in retail. He does not know why he votes for democrats except that his family is democrat, “always have been, always will be.”
After I mentioned to Steve that I wanted to feature our conversation, because I thought it was worthwhile, he said fine. He also said he would reply at some point on the FORUM.
My conversation with Steve lasted for about fifteen minutes. It was cordial and I used the principles and techniques that I write about in the guide. By the way, I am completing an update to my Conservative Guide to Community Organizing.
I started my conversation with Steve after he made a comment about Mondays FORUM. The three topics that I think will take center stage in the midterm elections bothered Steve, because he thought I was to rough on the president, because he didn’t cause any of the problems that I mentioned. He may not have, but he took responsibility when he made it political.
Continuing with where I left off from yesterday, the third strike is Immigration. Steve asked why we can’t just stop the illegal aliens from entering the country. I said we could and that the new Arizona law would help in the effort. Steve asked exactly what the law was for and said it won’t stop the illegal’s, it will discriminate against not only them but others.
I told him he was misinformed and explained that he Arizona law mirrored Federal law. I referred him to the website to read the law. I went onto say that for decades the Democratic Party has wanted to grant amnesty and the Republican Party has wanted aliens to apply for citizenship. It is the Democrats who make it political, because they use the group as a voting block. I also mentioned that the President is considering a blanket executive order that would grant amnesty to all. I also said that if the government wanted to pass reform they would and that reform would be to regulate immigration and secure the borders. None of this has been done. In my conversation, I mentioned that there are some that want our immigration law to mirror Mexican law, not only here, but in Canada as well, and all of North America would be subject to these laws. This put things in perspective for Steve.
I related some of the figures of minority and Hispanic percentages in population and where they are concentrated. Much of these facts and figures I have written about. This scared Steve and made him aware that immigration should be regulated. I went on to tell him about the crime scenario at the Border States and this is why the governor of Arizona has signed the law that she did. Much of this Steve did not know. My assumption at this point was that he is ill informed and I told him that.
As we were talking over this fifteen minute period, I continued to relate some of the historical facts of immigration. I told Steve that our forefathers had made statements about immigration 235 years ago. He was not aware of them and he was shocked that it was being discussed then. He thought it was just a recent development.
I went on to say, there are a lot of issues that this country is facing. I mentioned that he should start reading history and that he should start paying attention to what the Democrats are doing. I said that every move they make they take a little bit of our freedom and liberty with them. Steve said he agreed, especially with Healthcare. He then said if they can do it with healthcare they can do it with everything else. He said he voted for Obama and he now thinks he made a mistake. Steve said that at some point with all the controversy you sense that things are out of balance. He said he started to read some of the periodicals and historical documents that I had told him about in previous conversations. He shared them with his family and they found out that our forefathers were running away from “some of the things that are kind of happening today.”
Steve said he loved the banner on the Pinecone website and that he now knows that the words spoken then, should be words spoken today. The banner on the website, if you have forgotten, is: “It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather and irate tireless minority to set brush fires of freedom in the minds of men.” Samuel Adams.
Steve said, “I am afraid the minority are the people that are trying to save the country!”
He also said he will not vote for any democrat in this coming election.
I said,” I think you get it!”
I wanted to relate this conversation, because it is important. People like Steve will come to their own conclusions, if they have the facts and if they are steered in the direction of what our history means to each and every citizen of this country. It is our liberty and freedom that makes us great and not the government that thinks they should regulate those liberties and freedoms.
Yesterday, General McChrystal resigned his assignment in Afghanistan. This is tragic, because he was qualified and served with dignity. I said yesterday that I didn’t condone his actions or the story that resulted from loose lips. Remember “loose lip’s sinks ships.” I respect the chain of command and the presidency that sits at the top of the command. However, sometimes you just get a feeling that something is wrong and I think that the general’s frustration is a sign of this. I think we will see more of this going forward. I think that another layer has now been stripped from the onion skin that surrounds this president.
The real story behind this is: how did this situation get to the point that this decorated General resigned and how did another general, by the name of Petraeus, who was McChrystal’s boss, who the left named “Betrayus“ became the new point man? I believe it is because of the professionalism on his part and certainly not the Presidents. I think the other part of the story will be – “don’t shoot the messenger.” I hope that General Petraeus gets the job done and I hope the president will listen to him and no one else between now and July 11, 2011. This is the professionalism that the president must now exhibit.
The next out - will be Rahm Emanuel. Unlike McChrystal, this is a good one to loose for the sake of the country!

A footnote: In 131 days we will be the messengers of change when these topics are brought to bear, don’t forget the economy because the president has fouled out on that as well.
