Desire:

Wednesday – June 30, 2010

Desire:

Did you hear about the word desire? What is your desire? Why are we not using this word today? Why do we follow the desires of others?

These are the questions that we must start to ask ourselves and our neighbors. I know, there is rule of law and there must remain respect for our leaders. However, when circumstances merit that these questions be asked, then the citizen is not only obliged, but it becomes the duty of the citizen to make sure that government is reigned in and that the peoples desires come first.

As we approach our Independence Day celebration, we must remember that the word desire was the primary consideration for the fight for freedom. If our forefathers did not desire to be free then we would not enjoy the liberty they gave us.

In 1761, a mere fifteen years before the Declaration of Independence was written and then presented to the world, the American Colonists were loyal British subjects. They even celebrated the coronation of their new king, George III. The colonies stretched from Maine to Georgia and it was distinctly English in its character. The early colonies were made up of Scots, Welsh, Irish, Dutch, Swedes, Finns, Africans, French, Germans and Swiss, as well as English.

We were heirs to the Magna Carta, written in the 13th century. This document established the principles of law. No one man, not even the king, could take away certain rights. In 1763, the king started to assert his authority over the colonies to make them share the cost of the seven years war that England had just fought and won. The English colonists protested this by involving their rights as free men, but loyal subjects. It was only after a decade of repeated efforts on the part of the colonists to defend their rights that they resorted to armed conflict and eventually do the unthinkable; separate from the motherland.

Our early colonists and forefathers had a desire to separate from King George’s England, because of their desire to be free from the burdens that were now being placed upon them. The early colonists and forefathers had a desire to own property and to retain their wealth. The desire of the colonists was broadcast to the world, through the declaration.

The word desire is defined: 1: conscious impulse toward an object or experience that promises enjoyment of satisfaction in its attainment 2: a longing , craving b: a formal request or petition for some action.

The Declaration of Independence was our formal document that was to become a petition for some action. That action was later fought out on the battle field in revolution. This action later guaranteed the rights of a people who founded a new nation with laws and a desire to live among each other sharing the liberty and freedom they fought for.
Today, we find ourselves as a people subject to a government. It is like King George III is taking away our liberties and freedoms through a growing bureaucracy.

Do you desire a government who will sue a state over an immigration law that was enacted, because the government is not doing their job? Do you desire a government who will tax and who will spend our posterity’s wealth? Do you desire a government who cannot govern fairly, because of the desires of its king or president? Do you desire a government that will take away the wealth from some and award it to others so that they have the wealth? Do you desire a government or a court that will walk away from the Constitution for political purposes to move an agenda?

Or, are your desires directed towards the constitutional purpose of law and rules that even a President is sworn to protect and defend? Are your desires directed towards leaders that will put political agenda aside and lead for purposes of strengthening our country based upon its principles of freedom and liberty?

Do you desire a country that will protect its young and defend it against those that would destroy it for ideology? This was the desire of the founding fathers. Their wisdom to create liberty and freedom form tyranny and oppression still stands true today. It is a matter of recognizing it and then taking action in the desired way. It is called a revolt at the ballot box. This was the desire of the founders and this was their wish or their desires to keep the Union of States prosperous and free.

The story is hidden in the words:

Tuesday - June 29, 2010

The story is hidden in the words:

Vice President Joe Biden said over the weekend, “There is no way we are going to replace 8 million jobs.” He also said to an ice cream clerk, after the vice president got a free cone, “what can I do for you?” The clerk responded, “Reduce my taxes and we’ll call it even!” Joe said in response, “Say something nice instead of being a smart ass.” What is it with these people and this word?

In the G20 economic summit this weekend the President and his words were soundly rejected by the European Union who said to just stop the deficit spending. Even the European Union knows that Central Planning does not produce a prosperous society and economy.

In a 5 to 4 decision the Supreme Court up held a 2nd amendment rights case filed by a Chicagoan. There are two ways of looking at this. The first way to look at this is that 5 members of the court upheld the Constitution and the 2nd amendment right to bare arms in all 50 States: to protect yourself. The second way is that 4 members of the court wanted to go against the Constitution and the 2nd amendment right to bare arms, or in other words, extending the rights not to protect yourself in all 50 States.

It took the Supreme Court over 230 years to answer this question. It has and it upheld the 2nd Amendment right to bare arms. James Madison, the father of the Constitution said: “Americans have the right and the advantage of being armed – unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.” He also said: “The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation where the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.” He went on to say: “ The personal right to acquire property, which is a natural right, gives to property, when acquired, a right to protection, as a social right.”

The Supreme Court is the focus of our attention this week, because Elena Kagen’s confirmation to the court has begun. If confirmed, she will decide some of the most important cases that deal with government regulatory limits and the growth of government in our personal lives, these are important words. This nomination does not come as surprise, but rather a warning. This nominee is Barack Obama. If confirmed, she will be on the bench long past the time he will serve as president. I would venture to say that, if she was deciding the gun rights issue that was decided yesterday, the vote would have been 6 -3, instead of the 5-4 decision that was sent down by the court yesterday. How can I say that? Yes, she might have voted to support the Constitution, but chances are she wouldn’t have, based on what we know in the words that she has used. This is my opinion and I stand by it, because Madison said: “I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.”

It has taken the progressive liberal movement one hundred years to gain the control of our government. Unlike the conservatives, who believe in the Constitution, the progressive liberal will work to destroy and rewrite it to move their progressive agenda forward.

Now for the story behind the words! When President Regan took office, inflation was 20%. When he left office it was at 4.9%. When Reagan took office, unemployment was at 7.9%. When he left office it was down to 5.3%. As a result of Reagan’s Presidency, there was a 92 month economic boom. 18.5 million jobs were created. He did not raise taxes, he lowered them. Reagan raised government spending, where we needed it, and capped or lowered it, where it was needed. Biden and Obama have used the word ass on a few occasions. Doesn’t it make you think that this is what they think of us?

We have now lost more than 8 million jobs during this recession; most of them in the last two years. Unemployment is just below 10%. Inflation will rise by years end. In 24 months, our average growth in the economy is at 2%. Another President that was responsible for these kinds of numbers was Jimmy Carter. His life experience was far greater than this president, but the one thing they have in common is they are both progressive liberals with the same kind of agenda: big government and more spending, on the wrong things.

Reagan did not complain, but inspired. Reagan did not play golf, he worked. When he vacationed, he chopped wood at his ranch. He did not point fingers, but worked out the issues. He was a man that could be trusted and the world listened and then worked to answer his call. I ask this president where his plan is. I ask this president where his inspiration is. He has no plan and has no inspiration. When government assumes that it has the ultimate decision making capacity, they make an ass of u and me. You know this old adage.

This group does not want us to work. They want us to be wards of their programs, because they believe that asses don’t have the smarts. Just ask the ice cream clerk!

When a leader assumes his way is the best way, you get high unemployment. When a leader thinks his way is the best way, you get high inflation. When a U.S. President cannot garner the support of foreign leaders, you get a United States that becomes vulnerable and a United States that becomes one with the others: weak, listless, no growth and a people who need more and more from the government.

When the court is stacked with the same kind of philosophy as this president, you get a body that will be willing to change the Constitutional words and the meaning of them. We came one vote shy of this yesterday. So, remember this story when you vote this fall.

Oh, and one more thing. When a Vice President says we cannot replace 8 million jobs and calls an ice cream clerk a smart ass, you know that the inspiration and the intent behind the message is wrong for the country!

The story continues:

Monday – June 28, 2010

The story continues:

On today’s date, in 1778 , the battle Monmouth, New Jersey, took place. This was one of the first battles that Washington was able to repel the British army. Though this battle was a draw, it started Washington’s army on the course to victory over the British. After a long hard winter at Valley Forge, it became apparent that the army was intact and wanted to win the war.

It also created a folk hero or heroin by the name of Molly Pitcher. After her husband, a gunnery officer, became a casualty she picked up the line and began her quest for independence by loading the cannon that her husband was responsible for.
http://www.britishbattles.com/battle-monmouth.htm

When we look at our heroes, we must remember that it was not only men, who helped in the cause for independence, it was a group of patriot American women who we did not label, but accepted as one.

This week, we will lead up to the beginning of our story as a nation. On July 4th, we celebrate our freedom and our independence that men and woman of history created. Last week, I related a story. This week, we celebrate our story. In that celebration we must remember what the march for freedom and independence was all about. It was not over greed and it was not over politics. Our forefathers warned us about both and warned that greed and politics would ruin the Union of States, if we did not protect the fundamentals of the Union and protect the freedoms that were inherently ours. The forefathers wrote the documents and people like Washington and Molly Pitcher fought for the principles that were American.

This week, leading up to the July fourth holiday, the White House will bring a suit challenging the State of Arizona’s immigration law. The immigration law passed in Arizona mirrors Federal law, which the Federal government does not enforce. This will become an attempt to move the discussion of amenity to the forefront of the discussion. This is what the forefathers warned about when they spoke about greed and politics. The action taken by the White House does not improve the situation, but will destroy securing the border even more. It will play to the fears of constituents and play to the desires of those who want the benefits and that want free membership in our society.

The majority of Americans, who want immigration reform and who want the borders secured, favor the Arizona law. This is another way of diverting attention away from the economy and the Gulf Oil spill. This is what the politics of the July fourth celebration of 2010 will be. It is the greed of those who want the power and it becomes the politics of the day to retain the power so those who will get the benefits of citizenship will vote for the party that makes it easiest to attain the benefits without going through the process.

This week the sanctions go into effect in Iran. It will have little or no impact on the questions of Iran going nuclear. It will only support the notion that this administration is showing weakness. This display of new sanctions does not promote a strategy for tearing down the regime in Iran. It displays a strategy of containment for the immediate future. There are no ultimatums and the actions coming from the administration certainly are actions that demonstrate a resolve that was demonstrated in the founding days of the nation.

This week will be all about the Kagen nomination to the Supreme Court. Her written words have been hard to find because there are few documents that the Senate can find. However, her spoken words are her record and this will be the story of her nomination hearings. Don’t ask don’t tell and banning military recruiters from the Harvard campus is a story in itself.

As we continue the story for independence, this week, pay close attention to the details of the stories we have discussed today. These stories work to define us as a nation. The question we have to answer is what type of nation do we now want to be?

In had a conversation with a friend yesterday and we spoke about the importance of words and what are meant by the words we speak. I related this quote to her and asked her to read it when she had a chance. I want to do the same today.

I cannot forget about the quote that I ended Friday’s FORUM with. It was by Barry Goldwater, a conservative Republican who new the importance of words and who lived by the words he spoke, he said, “I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution or that have failed their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is “needed” before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents “interests,” I shall reply that I was informed that their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can.”

These words really do bring into focus the words of our forefathers and what should be spoken of today. My hope for Independence Day is to have our candidates speak similar words. These are words that Hope is truly built upon.

A broken promise!

Friday – June 25, 2010

A broken Promise!

Two weeks ago, Arizona Governor, Jan Brewer met at the White House with President Obama to discuss immigration and the passage of Arizona’s immigration law.

The Governor was hoping that something would come of the meeting. The President said, “give me two weeks and I will present my plan to you”. She waited, and yet nothing has happened. Yesterday, the Governor sent an open letter to the President and asked, where the plan that was promised me and the citizens of Arizona two weeks ago? Where are the troops and where is the 500 million dollars to assist us in securing the border?’ The President and the White House have yet to comment except to say that the White House will challenge the law in court and Mexico now is suing the State of Arizona over the Law that 68% of the people in this country support.

I left yesterday’s FORUM with a discussion about immigration and said this will be an issue in November, not only in Arizona, but across the nation.

My wishes are not to continually beat up on this President, but at some point you must agree that something is wrong in America. 48% of voters now disapprove of this president’s job approval, and 45% approve! 457,000 people lost their jobs last week. However, there was a drop of 19,000 people from the week before. On average, 467,000 people, per week, have lost their jobs in this country. 8.5 million people have now lost their jobs in this recession. I will concede, the recession is not the president’s fault. However, when he made it political, it then became his responsibility. Retail sales are down, as are new home sales. This will be another hidden story going into the fall.

My question is, how far down does this country have to go before the media wakes up? I don’t want to sound childish, but if this were George Bush, can you imagine how the press would be reacting to these man made disasters?

At least some of the people are waking up, because for the first time, 62% of voters say this country is now heading on the wrong track! This, unfortunately, is not humorous. The bright side is that my friend Steve, whom I wrote about this week, is now one of the 62%!

I related a story this week that I wanted to share with you. I thought that it was one that needed telling. It was a discussion that was between one American to another. I like stories and I like the people who tell them. Two of my favorite story tellers were from a time long gone. So let me continue this story with some of their words.

Will Rogers was a famous American story teller in the early part of the last century. Some say he was a statesman, some say a cowboy and some would classify him as a philosopher. What ever you say about the man, he made observations and turned them into humor. He said: “I don’t make jokes, I just watch the government and report the facts.” I think we need more of a Will Rogers than the media that we have today.
Another favorite of mine was Mark Twain. He could transform you to another time and another place with wit and humor. He said: “No man’s life, liberty, or property is safe while the legislature is in session.”
He wrote in his biography: “Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself. — Mark Twain, A.B. Paine’s Mark Twain: A Biography (Harper, 1912, Vol. 2, page 724).
The story this week will continue into next week and beyond. Unfortunately these stories are the politics our time. There is no running away from it. You can hide and you can deny or you can become a Will Rodgers and find a serious humor in all of it. You can read some of Twain and understand what he means by the word “idiot” and understand how liberty becomes something else other than what the legislature wants.
We should respect our leaders and we should demand that a code be followed by our leaders: Jefferson said: “When a man assumes a public trust, he should consider himself as public property.”
He also said: “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. “
Another story line, in American history, came from a man that could have been President. He said: “I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size.

This man was Barry Goldwater. He was a statesman, a Senator, a humorist, at times, and his philosophy came from a historical backdrop in wanting a Republican form of government, because that is our story. He made no promises, but to follow the Constitution. If you do, you will not break your promise!

Strike three and the final pitch!

Thursday – June 24, 2010

Strike three and the final pitch!

This week I am relating a conversation with someone I know who is a liberal and who reads the FORUM every now and then. Steve is middle aged and works in retail. He does not know why he votes for democrats except that his family is democrat, “always have been, always will be.”

After I mentioned to Steve that I wanted to feature our conversation, because I thought it was worthwhile, he said fine. He also said he would reply at some point on the FORUM.

My conversation with Steve lasted for about fifteen minutes. It was cordial and I used the principles and techniques that I write about in the guide. By the way, I am completing an update to my Conservative Guide to Community Organizing.

I started my conversation with Steve after he made a comment about Mondays FORUM. The three topics that I think will take center stage in the midterm elections bothered Steve, because he thought I was to rough on the president, because he didn’t cause any of the problems that I mentioned. He may not have, but he took responsibility when he made it political.

Continuing with where I left off from yesterday, the third strike is Immigration. Steve asked why we can’t just stop the illegal aliens from entering the country. I said we could and that the new Arizona law would help in the effort. Steve asked exactly what the law was for and said it won’t stop the illegal’s, it will discriminate against not only them but others.

I told him he was misinformed and explained that he Arizona law mirrored Federal law. I referred him to the website to read the law. I went onto say that for decades the Democratic Party has wanted to grant amnesty and the Republican Party has wanted aliens to apply for citizenship. It is the Democrats who make it political, because they use the group as a voting block. I also mentioned that the President is considering a blanket executive order that would grant amnesty to all. I also said that if the government wanted to pass reform they would and that reform would be to regulate immigration and secure the borders. None of this has been done. In my conversation, I mentioned that there are some that want our immigration law to mirror Mexican law, not only here, but in Canada as well, and all of North America would be subject to these laws. This put things in perspective for Steve.

I related some of the figures of minority and Hispanic percentages in population and where they are concentrated. Much of these facts and figures I have written about. This scared Steve and made him aware that immigration should be regulated. I went on to tell him about the crime scenario at the Border States and this is why the governor of Arizona has signed the law that she did. Much of this Steve did not know. My assumption at this point was that he is ill informed and I told him that.

As we were talking over this fifteen minute period, I continued to relate some of the historical facts of immigration. I told Steve that our forefathers had made statements about immigration 235 years ago. He was not aware of them and he was shocked that it was being discussed then. He thought it was just a recent development.

I went on to say, there are a lot of issues that this country is facing. I mentioned that he should start reading history and that he should start paying attention to what the Democrats are doing. I said that every move they make they take a little bit of our freedom and liberty with them. Steve said he agreed, especially with Healthcare. He then said if they can do it with healthcare they can do it with everything else. He said he voted for Obama and he now thinks he made a mistake. Steve said that at some point with all the controversy you sense that things are out of balance. He said he started to read some of the periodicals and historical documents that I had told him about in previous conversations. He shared them with his family and they found out that our forefathers were running away from “some of the things that are kind of happening today.”

Steve said he loved the banner on the Pinecone website and that he now knows that the words spoken then, should be words spoken today. The banner on the website, if you have forgotten, is: “It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather and irate tireless minority to set brush fires of freedom in the minds of men.” Samuel Adams.

Steve said, “I am afraid the minority are the people that are trying to save the country!”
He also said he will not vote for any democrat in this coming election.

I said,” I think you get it!”

I wanted to relate this conversation, because it is important. People like Steve will come to their own conclusions, if they have the facts and if they are steered in the direction of what our history means to each and every citizen of this country. It is our liberty and freedom that makes us great and not the government that thinks they should regulate those liberties and freedoms.

Yesterday, General McChrystal resigned his assignment in Afghanistan. This is tragic, because he was qualified and served with dignity. I said yesterday that I didn’t condone his actions or the story that resulted from loose lips. Remember “loose lip’s sinks ships.” I respect the chain of command and the presidency that sits at the top of the command. However, sometimes you just get a feeling that something is wrong and I think that the general’s frustration is a sign of this. I think we will see more of this going forward. I think that another layer has now been stripped from the onion skin that surrounds this president.

The real story behind this is: how did this situation get to the point that this decorated General resigned and how did another general, by the name of Petraeus, who was McChrystal’s boss, who the left named “Betrayus“ became the new point man? I believe it is because of the professionalism on his part and certainly not the Presidents. I think the other part of the story will be – “don’t shoot the messenger.” I hope that General Petraeus gets the job done and I hope the president will listen to him and no one else between now and July 11, 2011. This is the professionalism that the president must now exhibit.

The next out - will be Rahm Emanuel. Unlike McChrystal, this is a good one to loose for the sake of the country!

A footnote: In 131 days we will be the messengers of change when these topics are brought to bear, don’t forget the economy because the president has fouled out on that as well.

Strike two, my conversation with Steve:

Wednesday – June 23, 2010

Strike two, my conversation with Steve:

Continuing from where I left off yesterday, with my conversation with Steve, I feel it is important to illustrate each point in the discussion so that I can offer some examples on how to handle the liberal.

Steve did concede some of the lost history with the Iranian issue. He then said, “Well, what about the oil spill in the Gulf?”, and I said, “What about it?” He said, “The president is being prudent with the moratorium on drilling and it is the fault of BP and no one else!”

I said that only G.H.W. Bush can claim to be prudent. I did concede that BP was primarily at fault, because it was their rig. I went on to say that the Bush administration found all sorts of violations on that rig and the Obama administration found no violations and used this rig as an example for others to follow. We both agreed that possibly each administration might have made mistakes.

I then said that we have a common ground and he agreed. I mentioned that drilling at these depths is the problem and I explained how the oil companies did not like to drill at these depths because it is very costly and dangerous. When you drill at these depths and something goes wrong it is impossible to send a diver down. All you have is a camera and gushing oil. Even robots cannot function at 100% at these depths.

The president was mistaken when he said we use 20% of the world’s oil and we have 2% of the supply. Our untapped resources can supply this country alone with 25 years of crude. It makes more sense to drill on land than at sea. Every morning, when America wakes up, our thirst for oil equates to 20 million barrels a day. We are sending our money to many who are enemies of this country and could, if they wanted to, bring this country to a screeching halt. Steve was not aware of this.

I then mentioned that while the president wants to be prudent, we are in day 64 of this crisis. The president is using this crisis to advance his agenda with cap and tax the old cap and trade legislation. I explained what the legislation was and said the president and his party will tax every form of energy you use. Steve did not understand this aspect of the bill. I said we all agree that energy it a top priority, but without oil our way of life is threatened. I said we need to explore all forms of available sources. Wind, nuclear energy and clean coal all have applications. It is not prudent to sign a bill and say that a bill is signed and just go do it. This president is making a serious mistake with raising taxes and saying he has a victory with an energy policy. Steve understood my point and agreed that it is best to pursue domestic oil production while working towards new forms of energy.

He asked why Conservatives are so tied into big oil drilling on land. Republicans want a sensible approach to oil production. We want to drill on land where it presents less risk to the environment and is cheaper to get when reserves are found. It is the Democrats who are held captive by the environmental lobbies and who make these false arguments and cost the industry untold amounts of money, as a result of where they are forced to drill.

Oil production is not evil. It is the people who have committed crimes that make it evil. Oil is not dirty. When accidents occur and the wrong decisions are made it then becomes a mess. This is what we now have in the Gulf. The president can suspend the Jones Act and bring foreign aid in to help. The President and the administration turned down 13 countries with the technology to stop the and clean up the oil. I explained to Steve what the Jones Act was and explained how the decision’s coming out of The White House have made this situation a lot worse.

I asked Steve if suspending oil production for six months make sense while the economy is troubled and people are still losing their jobs. Steve was not aware that the president put a drilling moratorium in place in the Gulf for six months.

The decision of a Federal Judge, yesterday, to suspend the moratorium was not made when I discussed Mondays FORUM with Steve. This Federal Judge did the right thing. He said in his decision, “just because an oil rig failed does not mean they are all dangerous.”

Steve saw my point and asked why he did not know some of these facts. I asked what do you read and listen to? He said I read the papers and listen to the six o’clock news. I said that was his first mistake.

This week, I am making a point to relate a real conversation and how you can defend the conservative side with thought, respect, fact and humor. When we organize, it is important to defend your point of view and bring in the real facts when you know the other person is not aware of them. Even a liberal knows that what is happening today is not right and does not make sense. Steve is finding out. In tomorrows Forum you will see how he did.

A side bar: The events of General McChrystal and the article in Rolling Stone present serious problems for the President and the country. I do not condone the General’s comments or what he has done. He violated the code of the military. But, as we need to find out what happened in the Gulf, we also need to find out how this highly decorated General went astray, opened up and why he is frustrated with the decisions coming from the White House. This is the president’s challenge and not the General’s.

Strike one!

Tuesday – June 22, 2010

Strike one!

I had a conversation with a liberal friend who read yesterday’s FORUM. He said I was too rough on the President, because “look at what he inherited” from Bush and the others.

Well, you can imagine how I reacted. Just as I explain, in my Practical Guide to Conservative Organizing, when confronted with hostility, answer it with thought, respect, fact and humor. This is called the TRFH factor.

I started the conversation about my view this way: “The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so.”
-Ronald Reagan

This week, I will answer this question with each item I detailed in yesterday’s FORUM. I also hope to illustrate how you can address liberals. These three strikes should become the issues for the midterm. When the administration strikes out, our economy will also strike out in the fall, as a result of these three topics. They are; Iran, the Gulf Oil spill and Immigration.

The first strike, in the argument, is Iran. It is true the President did inherit a terrible situation. However, when you run for president, you must be prepared to handle the circumstances and not make unintended circumstances, as a result.

Since the Carter administration, this country has been held hostage by Iran. Carter failed to contain the radical element of the Komani government and the radical element of Islam. This country was held hostage for 444 days. When our embassy was overtaken by the revolutionary guard, the current president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was seen in photos as one of the captors. The embassy personal were taken to various spots, blind folded and were interrogated. They were humiliated and were televised in lone appearances and postured in pre-written statements.

All of this was due to the Shah of Iran, who was a friend of the United States, who was losing his power and was forced to leave the country in an overthrow by the Ayatollah Kohmani, who assumed control and who radicalized Iran. He was the one who called the United States “The Great Satan”.

The back drop was oil and the power of a Middle Eastern Country defeating the United States, not only militarily, but through economic means by holding the oil in the Gulf hostage. Many of you may not realize it, but Iraq, under Saddam Huessien, was friendly with the United States at that time. Iraq was also an enemy of Iran during the same period. Carter tried to extract the hostages with a midnight military raid. It was met with disaster when the helicopters crashed in the desert at the beginning of the assault.

With this failed attempt, Carter also became a hostage, as was his nation when gas shortages and lines began to occur at the gas pumps. Gasoline was about .25 a gallon then and it rose dramatically to .75 and then to a dollar and more.

Flash forward. Every president since Carter has had to deal with Iran. Reagan became president when Carter lost his re-election campaign. Reagan won in a land slide victory. Iran was playing politics, because they knew Carter was weak and ill equipped to handle the situation on an international basis and was in trouble domestically as well. As soon as Reagan became President the hostages were released. This was another blow to a failed progressive liberal president.

George H.W. Bush won the election after Reagan’s two terms. George Bush started the action in the Gulf when Saddam invaded Kuwait. He was able to gain a coalition of Countries to fight against Iraq and their ambitions of expansion. His only fault was that he didn’t go to Baghdad to oust Saddam, his son W., did. Under Reagan and Bush, the former Soviet Union fell and the world seemed to be a better place because the mid east was somewhat contained through military action.

Then Clinton became president after defeating the first Bush. During the Clinton years, nuclear technology was stolen and then sold to Iran, after it made its way to Korea and China. This was the result of a President who was preoccupied and could not stand firm. Due to a sexual scandal, that he lied about, he was later impeached. During the Clinton years, terrorism rose dramatically. Our enemies saw a troubled president without focus. In his tenure, the first attack on the World Trade Center occurred. There were bombings at our foreign embassies and our U.S. warship, the Cole, was attacked by terrorists in a small boat in Yemen. I can say with some authority, that if Bush had won and Clinton had lost we might not have the issues today with the President we have today. Elections do have consequences. Clinton also gave up three chances to take out Osama bin laden.

Then, George Bush won a controversial election against Al Gore. Our Constitutional provisions worked and it should have been a signal to the rest of the world that we are a country of laws and that succession was peaceful. The Democrats never got over the loss. From day one of the Bush administration he was made out to be a villain and unqualified to be president. Again, our enemies saw a nation at war with itself. Our laws did not stop that horrific attack on 9/11, but our laws gave the president the authority to attack our aggressors. George Bush did not dither, he did not show weakness and he acted with focus and deliberation, only to be criticized by the Democrats when the death count was rising.

Bush decided to start the war in Afghanistan and then move it to Iraq. Sadam Huessien was ousted and caught and then executed for his crimes. In all of this time, just about every terror attack in the world had the fingerprints of Iran on it. I believe that Bush wanted to go into Iraq to do two things: bring democracy after Huessien was ousted and then to have boots on the ground when a decision about Iran had to be made.

Behind all the planning and calculated war strategy no one predicted that Barack Obama would become President. We are now confronted again with Iran. This time it is not a simple matter of an embargo that is being initiated by sea. It is not a simple matter of prohibiting commerce with Iran through our allies. It is not a simple matter of words by a president who is dithering like Jimmy Carter. It is not a simple matter of demanding through the U.N. that Iran stop their nuclear ambitions.

It is a matter of a president who is ill equipped to manage this situation on a world wide basis. It is a matter of being held hostage by a country that started modern day terrorism, as we know it. It is a matter of two past president’s who had failed to act and who did not show the resolve that our enemy is now demonstrating. It is a matter of presidents who have taken the easy road, instead of the hard road. Three President’s that we cannot blame are Ronald Reagan, George Bush and his son, 43.

I ended the discussion with this line: “Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the U.S. was too strong.” - Ronald Reagan

My liberal friend Steve was silent and then said “I forgot about some of these facts.”

A side bar, as of this morning General Stanley Mcchrystal the commander in Afghanistan is on his way home after making critical comments about the administration and their war policy. These comments were made in an article in Rolling Stone. Like General McArthur facing Truman and then being fired for his comments, Mcchrystal will now face this president. The troops respected McArthur and followed him, our troops in Afghanistan respect and will follow Mcchrystal. They might not respect Obama in the same way!

The absence of intelligence!

Monday – June 21, 2010

The absence of intelligence!

I can remember when the left was complaining that George Bush had an absence of intelligence, when he went to war. To the left it’s all about intelligence. Well, it’s been their turn at bat and they have struck out. The administration has had its chance at bat and they have not hit anything.

The three topics in the news this week will be: Iran, the Gulf and the immigration law in Arizona, which all are now affecting the President’s approval rating.
Strike one: The President is acting tough with the sanctions that are now in place against Iran, plus new ones. The U.S. will set penalties for third - country banks and companies that traded with blacklisted Iranian banks or subsidiaries of the Countries Revolutionary Guard. The U.S. has targeted 16 Iranian banks for alleged links to terrorism or weapons of mass destruction, in addition to construction subsidiaries of the Revolutionary Guard, which western officials said controlled up to a third of the Iranian economy. Since the U.S. has already forbid its own companies and citizens from dealing with Iranian state-owned groups, the penalties were largely intended to deter other countries and companies.
These sanctions should have been in place two years ago. The Iranians have anticipated these moves and have taken advantage of the time it has taken to write the sanctions and have now made deals with China and Russia to counteract the sanctions. In other words, the economic part of the sanctions will not affect anything. Iran is moving towards its goals of becoming a nuclear player and essentially has disregarded the Obama administration, because of their weakness and their inability to garner the support of Russia and China.
In the end, Israel will protect itself, if it feels threatened. It would take a few military strikes to set the Iranian program back a few years. This will be the only solution to a complex solution that the U.S. and this administration can’t seem to fix. Iran knows this president will not use the military option.
Strike two: The Gulf Oil spill will take on a new dimension this week, because some local communities are now taking matters into their own hands along the Gulf Coast. Last week, the Coast Guard shut down oil pumping barges for 24 hours, due to safety jacket requirements not being followed. These types of bureaucratic red tape shut downs are part and parcel to the problems in the Gulf with this spill.
New patterns of oil will be found to have penetrated other areas of Florida’s coast line. There is no real date for any relief of the gushing oil, except that some time in August a new well will have been drilled to relieve the pressure of the current site.
BP will question some of the payment terms to those that have been harmed. They will also question - what does restoration mean do we restore the shoreline to pre spill conditions or to new ecological levels? This event will become an integral part in the economic recovery as more details come in we will see the effect.
Strike three: The administration will move forward in its effort to bring a legal challenge to Arizona’s immigration law. 71% of the people in Arizona favor the law, while clear cut majorities of Americans nationwide are in favor of the law, as well. It is being protested by minorities and those who favor amnesty. 26% of voters believe the Justice department should challenge the law, while 58% of voters, in fact, favor passage of a law like Arizona’s in their own state. When asked specifically about the chief provision of the Arizona law, support is even higher. 69% of voters believe a police officer should be required to check the immigration status of anyone stopped for a traffic violation or violation of some other law if he suspects the person to be an illegal.
It will be interesting to see the Arizona’s Governor Jan Brewer take center stage and possibly defeat the efforts of the President in the coming weeks.
The Rasmussen Reports of the Presidential tracking Poll for Sunday June 20, 2010 show that 28% of the nation’s voters strongly approve of the way the President is performing his role. 44% strongly disapprove, giving him a Presidential index rating of negative 16, last week it was negative 15.
A new trend that is starting to take hold in the numbers is 47% of voters still blame today’s economic problems on the recession that began during the Bush years. However, new polling shows that 45% of voters now say they’re due to the policies of President Obama. This is a shift in opinion that cannot be discounted due to partisan politics.

A moment in time!

Friday - June 18, 2010

A moment in time!

On this date in 1775 British Redcoats evacuated Philadelphia. I wonder if that was what Tony Hayworth the CEO of BP was thinking when he was being grilled by the likes of Henry Waxman and Bart Stupack at the Congressional hearings yesterday over the Gulf Oil spill. I think that Tony kept his traditional British cool and kept his traditional British composure which I think is tradition. However, I was embarrassed by the questions and the tone coming from the committee. Some of these people are in part responsible for the spill because of the various pieces of environmental legislation they had voted for in past sessions of Congress. This is just another reason to vote them out.

If I were Tony Hayworth I would have said the following; we have not only said we have also taken the responsibility of paying for the damages. Your oil spill restoration act of the 90’s say’s we have to, it’s your law. However, you must stipulate that the United States was also at fault. It was your policies that forced us to drill at these depths. And it was in part your fault that the oil has reached your shores. Why did this Administration turn down help from 13 countries 3 days into this spill, you even sent written letters turning down the offers of sending free equipment and the necessary technology that would siphon and clean the site at the source.

Unfortunately I am not Tony Hayworth and I am not the one writing the check. But I wish I could sit in front of these buffoons and ask some questions that would be a moment in time.

Much like everything else with this congress and this administration they put on a good show in the beginning but in the end you walk away wanting so much more. It is day 59 and the oil is still spewing. It is estimated that this well could empty oil into Gulf for four more years if it cannot be stopped. There are no questions being asked why it cannot be stopped and there are no questions being asked of the administration why help was turned down. I believe this is where the real story is and where the plot begins that is aimed at destroying one more industry and creates one more demon. I have no apology for that remark!

Any way it is only a moment in time that has disappeared as quickly as the Congressional members got there 15 minutes of fame.

I am ending this week with a quote by Ronald Reagan. He was man that got to the point and was able to sift through the details maybe this is why he was so successful.

Reagan said: 'Government is like a baby: An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.'

A footnote: There are 137 days until the midterms. I believe we can make that a moment in time when we evacuate the Democratic Party from the Halls of the U.S. Congress. I know Bart Stupack is gone because he see’s the moment in time coming!

Where's the support?

Thursday – June 17, 2010

Where’s the support?

Well, the vote is in. Even the major media is criticizing the President for too much, too little, too late. Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow and Chris Mathews were not pleased with the “anointed ones” performance Tuesday night. They all did their level best to announce their frustration and their disappointment with the Presidents performance.

I believe we will now see the crumbling of the façade that has been built by the handlers and those that so far have been unsuccessful in their efforts to hijack this nation.

New polling numbers are in. 46% of people in this country presently get benefits of some form from the government. Those that make $2,000.00 a month or less give the president a passing grade. This is the makeup of the base that supports this President. His approval rating is now at 42%. I believe he will be hitting the 30’s soon.

Last Saturday, on America Talks with David Zublick, I made a comment on the air that the President was a petulant little child. When I saw the President for a second or third time in reruns of the speech, I saw a child. Last night, Sean Hannity along with Michelle Malkin used the term “a petulant child” in reference to the President.

I believe the White House is in disaster mode. If I can see the lack of experience and the dithering, can you imagine what Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Putin, or Kim Jong il see? If our foes see a President that took 57 days to respond to this oil spill, what would they think his response time would be for an attack? All of this plays into the disaster mode scenario.

When a White House tries to put the spin on things or tries to take credit for being strong, it becomes very transparent. This is not the transparency that the White House wants or the one that was promised.

The word Patriot is defined as: “One who loves his country and zealously supports its authority and interest”.

What makes a patriot? Is it solely a soldier or an advocate for liberty and freedom? Is it someone who runs for office? Is it someone who speaks eloquently? Is it someone who can relate with unquestioned emotion? These are all parts of the definition and these are all parts of what we want in a leader. A patriot has all of this, but also emits love of country and a passion to serve.

Is this what you see when the president speaks or when the president answers questions? Is this why the White House doesn’t hold news conferences any more? Is this why we now have an arms length view of the president? When I watch this President, I don’t see the emotion, I don’t see the compassion and I don’t see a patriot, as the definition implies.

I don’t think this President is capable of having a George Bush moment with the bull horn. I don’t think this President is capable of having a Ronald Reagan moment when he delivered his “rendezvous with destiny speech.” This President had a chance to deliver a JFK style moment with a challenge to the decade approach. The President didn’t, because, if he did, Olberman, Maddow and Mathews would have been right there with him. I believe the chink in the amour is now apparent.

Maybe the press will begin to act like patriots and like the journalists that they purport to be. Don’t hold your breath, but I did see the first layer of the onion come off yesterday, with the analysis of the performance that had been built up for 57 days.

A Patriot, in the style of Kennedy, Reagan and Bush were catapulted into office, and were tested. Say what you will about various policies of these past presidents. Say what you will about the style of these past presidents. Say what you will about their speeches. What you cannot deny was their patriotism and the view of maturity and the view of honor they had for the office and their country. I am sorry I just don’t see it with this one!

This one displays the behavior of a child that is not getting his way. This one displays the lack of emotion, like the child that pouts. This one displays a vision to our foes of a man who is not committed and who does not possess the characteristics of a man in charge; not only of his destiny, but a country’s people. Our foes view the polling numbers the same way that we do and they see the same things we do. They just have the perspective that we don’t and that is something we must start to see.

Support is everything for success. When the leader of the free world loses it, then the game of Jeopardy begins and this is a game that only the smartest will win.

A footnote: Remember this moment because in 138 days we have a chance to become patriots. In 138 days we will express our passion and love for the country with support for the candidates that display emotion and the passion to take our country back.

I know you are reading this, 18 minutes and more promises:

Wednesday – June 16, 2010

I know you are reading this, 18 minutes and more promises:

I want to start today’s FORUM with a retraction. On Monday, I wrote that the President would address the nation that night. Well, last night was his scheduled address. I didn’t catch the typo and I apologize. Thank you, David for pointing out the error. I know I am being read, because I do get responses.

Well, last night was historical. The President used the Oval Office to address the nation. Kennedy used it during the Cuban missile crisis, Eisenhower used it, Roosevelt used it, Reagan and Bush used it and I am sure future Presidents will also use it. The difference is that when other Presidents used the office it wasn’t to increase their poll numbers or to deflect blame. The other president’s approval ratings were not as low as this president’s either.

President Obama is the first president not to use the Oval office for a speech in his first year as President. Richard Nixon used it to announce his resignation.

The President was not responsible for the oil spill. Let me say that again, he was not responsible for the oil spill. However, what he is responsible for is the current crisis the current outcome and the devastation that has been caused by this man made disaster. This was not a terror attack, that this administration would label a man made disaster. The President and the administration cannot hold BP solely responsible. There is no reason to drill for oil in 5,000 feet of water. The reason why, is that technology does not exist that will address this type of man made disaster.

The environmentalist, the Democratic Party and many liberals have forced these oil companies to drill in these depths, so that the oil rigs will not be visible. The President intimated the reason why we drill in these depths is, because conventional drilling does not yield the crude that our energy demands require. He said “we consume 20% of the world’s oil and we have only 2% of the worlds supply.” There are untapped, known reserves that we are prohibited from touching. There are reserves in Alaska that we have known about for decades and we cannot drill there, because of the “environmental impact”. I don’t know about you, but I cannot think of a worse environmental impact than what is happening in the GULF today.

1/3 of the president’s 18 minute speech was devoted to new initiatives. There was not one mention of what is being done to stop the leak, except that a new relief well is being worked on to stop the leak and that will take time. He said “there will be more oil and damage before the siege is done.” This is precisely the problem!

We cannot demonize the energy producers. What we can do is lift the demands that make them operate in conditions that cause risk, because there is no technology that reduces the risk when accidents happen or a man made disaster occurs.

As the President laid out the challenges for the future, he moved his agenda. He said, “we are unsure about what that looks like.” This is, again, precisely the problem with his agenda. We cannot depend on what he is saying. This was not oil clean up speech; this was a political clean up speech. He wants a new energy initiative. Remember, Rahm Emanuel said,"You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before." If you listened to the President last night I believe this was the hidden message. Last night was not the time to speak in code, it was the time to lead and excuses were not needed.

I wanted the president to level with me and tell me what went wrong. I didn’t want him to talk about all the brains working on this. I wanted to know what was happening today to clean up the environment.
What he failed to do was take the responsibility. This Administration did not tell us why they turned down help and turned down the equipment that was offered by the Brits, the Dutch the Norwegians and yes, the Mid East oil nations that would have collected the oil at the site by siphoning, by dispersing and by cleaning the water at the source. It is now day 57 and the oil is still spewing and he asked us to be patient.

Not only the environment is at stake, our financial environment it at risk now and I am afraid the President will use that as an excuse when the economy fails again, because of the man that caused the disaster, after the one he was not responsible for. This is what he needs to learn and he didn’t in the 18 minutes that our attention was turned to him in the people’s office!

One last thought the two words the president didn’t use were liberty and freedom, because a good energy policy would give us both.

Scary Statistics:

Tuesday – June 15, 2010

Scary Statistics:

When ever I had a discussion with my children about why things happen or who in some cases caused bad things to happen, I ended by saying, “look at the statistics”. Sometimes statistics are good and some times they can be bad. It all depends on how you look at the equation. In any case, the stats will tell the story.

When we want to find out the crime rate, we look at statistics. To find out about who commits crimes and what type of crime was committed, we look at the statistics. When Sociologists analyze societal trends, they look at statistics.

When pollsters ask questions, in their surveys, they use statistics to plot the curve and determine the trend.

When the census is taken, statistics tell the story. The census is about 80% done, according to census officials. What we do know, before new stats are tabulated, is that 49% of newborns in America were babies of minority families. Between 1990 and 2000, we saw a doubling of Hispanics born in this country. There are 9 births for every Hispanic death in this country. 54.7% of our population is now either a minority or immigrant.

When I founded Pinecone Conservatives a year ago, I had a conversation with a neighbor. She said she was Canadian and shared a dual citizenship with America. She also went on to say that the Constitution does not mean anything to her. She favored a government run health system and favored social aid programs. I am afraid this is the pervasive view of many. Many of the new Americans view the Constitution as something outdated and as something they don’t necessarily agree with.

Many of the new Americans have been led to believe that the founding fathers and many politicians were bigots and the laws favored the educated and wealthy. Many of the new Americans have been led to believe that Conservatives favor the educated and the wealthy. Many of the immigrants come from socialist countries or countries that offered nothing to its citizens in the way of aid. Many of the immigrants, or illegal’s, come to this country, because it is the land of plenty and opportunity. Even this phrase has been changed to mean that everything is free to the underprivileged. Many of the new Americans have been led to believe that Conservatives are a problem for them.

I am proud to say that I come from a family of immigrants. I still have my culture, because my grandparents and great-grandparents knew that the land of plenty would yield the fortune of liberty and freedom if they assimilated. My grandmother, in particular, was a strong, Conservative woman, because she and all of my grand parents saw the horrors of genocide in Armenia. They came to this country, they respected the Constitution and lived the dream that the document whose character is reflected by the founding Fathers who wrote it, a mere 140 years before my family immigrated here.

Many of the new Americans are given the false impression that the land of plenty is only reserved for the wealthy and the educated. The land of the plenty is there for anyone who is industrious and who works hard. This is what is missing from the dialog.

The Founding Fathers viewed immigration and assimilation this way:
At the beginning of our republic, the nation needed a larger population and encouraged immigration. At the same time, the founding fathers were concerned with assimilating immigrants. George Washington, wrote to John Adams, and stated that immigrants should be integrated into American life so that “an intermixture with our people, they, or their descendants, get assimilated to our customs, measures, laws; in a word soon become one people.” In 1790, James Madison stated that America should welcome the immigrant who could assimilate, but exclude the immigrant who could not readily “incorporate himself into our society.”

Alexander Hamilton insisted that "the safety of a republic depends essentially on the energy of a common national sentiment; on a uniformity of principles and habits; on the exemption of citizens from foreign bias and prejudice; and on the love of country which will almost invariably be found to be closely connected with birth, education, and family.”

In notes on Virginia, Thomas Jefferson wrote: “Every species of government has its principles. Ours… is a composition of the freest principles of the English constitution, with others derived from natural rights and natural reason. To these nothing can be more opposed than the maxims of absolute monarchies. Yet, from such, we are to expect the greatest number of emigrants. They will bring with them the principles of government they leave, imbibed in their early youth; or if able to throw them off, it will be in exchange for an unbounded licentiousness, passing , as is usual , from one extreme to another. It would be a miracle were they to stop precisely at the point of temperate liberty. These principles, with their language, they will share with us the legislation. They will infuse into it their spirit, warp and bias its direction, and tender it a heterogeneous, incoherent, distracted mass.”

I believe this is what we are experiencing now. Never in our history have we questioned the birth certificate and birth place of a President. Never in our history have we questioned a president on his religion. Is he Christian or Muslim? We still don’t know the answer. This should not matter, but we don’t have answers and the Constitution is the rule especially when it comes to citizenship. Never before in our history would we permit a Muslim Activity Center to be built on hallowed ground, on the site of the 9/11 attacks. Never before in our history have we questioned the basis of allowing Sharia Law to possibly be aligned with Constitutional law in this country.

We are a distracted mass of people. We have President who uses every distraction to push an agenda. His agenda is biased. His agenda does not protect the mass, but will warp the mass into an unrecognizable form of extremism.

The premise of the direction of uncontrolled immigration is scary, because the statistics back up the scary facts. Instead of educating immigrants on how to take advantage of our system, and how we will take advantage of them, by courting their vote, let’s instead educate them on how they can make this country better for all, by reading and learning the words of the founding fathers.

A footnote: There are 140 days until the midterms. There will be new statistics that will tell the story of this failed president and the failed agenda that is designed to make America unrecognizable from what our forefathers intended.

The Indictment!

Friday – June 11, 2010

The Indictment!

I was listening to Sean Hannity on the radio yesterday and, as I was listening, my brain was working in overdrive. I wanted to write about how easy it is to criticize those who are on the front line. It’s easy to be a Monday morning quarterback and without offering solutions you only become one more talking head.

I don’t presume to know everything, nor do I presume to know all the issues but, what I do know is something is broken.

As I was listening to Sean, a caller called in, who was supporting the President and was, in my opinion, talking the talk of a partisan. He said, “Is it a right thing or a white thing” in response to Sean’s defense of his point. First of all, we are all defending what we think is right. The issues are no longer simple nor are they black and white; there is a whole lot of gray area and that could be part of the problem.

We cannot listen to those who defend the incompetence and the lack of leadership that this president is guilty of. This is not because he is black and I am white. It is because the President is guilty of incompetence. I would say, if George Bush was the President and this oil spill occurred under his watch, he would have talked to the Chairman of BP by now on day 53.

The President is now calling for a meeting with BP officials. This is another meeting and this is another session where the professor will teach at a weekend seminar. This is another opportunity for the President to look like he is engaged and look like he is doing something. This effort is transparent, because it is too late in coming.

The administration is now looking at the legal side and prosecuting those at BP for negligence. This is all fine and good, but we cannot forget that oil is still leaking into the Gulf. We cannot forget that this oil might ruin the natural habitat in the low lands and marshes for decades in the Gulf. We cannot forget that the affected states have been screaming for help and the government has been slow to react.

When a crime occurs and the guilty are looking for alibis, the wheels of justice start to turn and an indictment is served. Part of the indictment is a description of the crime. Have we asked; why we didn’t have the technology to cap a well 5,000 feet deep in the Gulf of Mexico? Have we asked why the government didn’t require that technology be in place in the event of a disaster of this type? Why are we not going after the environmental lobbyists and activists that said we must drill deep in the ocean to protect the shore line and local habitats? Have we asked the question why we are forced to follow the environmental movement’s demands?

The indictment should also allege that the administration is using this spill as way to move legislation called Cap and Trade that will tax every aspect of carbon based energy. This bill is dead, but there will be a new one now, coming under a new name. Just today, the Senate will vote on Resolution 26, giving the EPA unprecedented powers to enact and govern over every environmental issue. The EPA is not made up of elected officials, but they will determine many aspects of our lives going forward, because it is now a bureaucracy. Just today the press in London is saying the President is using BP for political purposes.

The President said he was on top of this matter over a month ago. He was standing in the rain with those he was consulting with. He wanted to get all the views so he would know whose A** to kick. If this President had been on top of this matter, as he said then, we would have had a different outcome on day 53. The indictment should be served and it should be for incompetence under fire.

You cannot fault BP entirely. You cannot fault those who died as a result of the explosion. You cannot fault those who were working at the time. We can fault the lack of technology. We can fault the government for, again, being slow to react and we can fault a president who said he would make the earth clean again. He said he would bring people together and he would be transparent in the process. The only thing that is transparent is the lack of honesty and the lack of competence and intelligence on the part of many and I include the President. At least George Bush knew after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf he had to cut the RED TAPE to get things done. This is what experience tells you to do when you have bureaucrats in charge and bureaucrats solving a problem that can be rectified by a simple Presidential order to cut the red tape and think outside of the box.

We, as citizens, must cut the creation of red tape where ever possible. The red tape is created by the elected officials who are part and parcel to the incompetence in our government. If we vote the right people into office (this is not a right thing or a white thing) we can curb the growth of bureaucrats and those that require their existence to enact their agenda.

Ronald Reagan said, in remarks to the students at Moscow State University, on May 31, 1988: “Every once and a while, somebody has to get the bureaucracy by the neck and shake it loose and say “stop doing what you’re doing.”

What do we do now?

Thursday – June 10, 2010

What do we do now?

I was listening to a local radio show yesterday and the topic of discussion was the renewed interest in politics and how local people are getting involved. The show was open to callers one man called in and said, “ I am disgusted at talk radio and the hate. I am disgusted at the way conservatives are not giving this president a chance. I am disgusted that there are people who do not want this man to succeed and do what he wants.” He said, “The Unions made this country strong and the president, if given a chance, will too.” I am tired of the hate that Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levine spew on this station in their time slot.” I am, of course, paraphrasing, but this was the context of his comments.

Then, I had a telephone call form a health care expert who is opposed to the president’s plans. We talked about what we need to do in the next 147 days to get Conservatives energized and to get people out to the polls. My FORUM will be part of the plan.

There will be a renewed push by the administration to sell this healthcare plan so it is imperative that we take the Senate and Congress so we can change the plan to something that builds instead of destroys.

Then, it dawned on me. If the caller that called in had the ideas he had then, he has not been educated. If the caller that called in and said the president needs a chance to do what he wants, he is not been educated. If the caller called in and said he was tired of the hate, he has not been educated. This might be the profile of the voter that presents the real danger to America.

The Unions did not make this country strong, but the Unions can make a candidate strong. The President does need room to lead, but when a President leads from the perch of authority instead of experience then the country suffers, as it is now.

The caller, who I am referencing, probably did not know that if current spending continues at the rate it is now, by 2015 our debt will be over 19 trillion dollars. It is now being said by Ben Bernanke that if spending continues at this pace we will go the way of Western Europe.

I wonder if the caller has a perspective on the danger that this debt presents. Is it the caller’s view that it is okay for this President to intentionally ruin the country, so that he can change it? Does the caller know the definition of soft tyranny? Does the caller have any idea of the history of this nation and the history of the men that brought this nation to life? I don’t think so, because, if he did, the caller would not say the president needs a chance and he would not say that the opposition spews hate. If he knew the context of history and the context of the words Limbaugh and Levine speak, then the caller would not take their words out of context.

This is the challenge. As long as there are voters, like the caller, then we will continue to have people like, Pelosi, Reid and Obama hold office, not only for their full terms, but for a significant portion of our lives.

So, the question of what do we do now is pertinent and is important.

When we hear people speak, like the caller, we need to remind them of what the revolution was about. We need to remind them of the difference between liberty and tyranny. We need to remind them of the difference between Washington and Obama. We need to remind them that Unions did not make America strong.
I cannot end today’s FORUM without the words of Madison, the father of the Constitution. James Madison, said, “Do not separate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution, which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government.” I worry that we are separating text from historical background, because today we are not following the document that was laid before us. Not every American knows about history, nor can they compare and contrast yesterday’s events to today’s challenges. Madison went on to say: “It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood.”
Remind people, like the caller, that we are now living under a form of illegitimate government, because people like Obama have bastardized it, because of their desire to separate historical text, so they can subvert the Constitution through laws like the Healthcare bill that was so voluminous and incoherent that nobody can understand it.
I know I have repeated myself, with some of this text, but I cannot emphasize the importance of the debate over liberty and tyranny. I cannot emphasize the importance of educating fellow voters; not to just accept what a president does, because he wants to!

A footnote: There are 147 days to actively support the right candidate that either won a primary or who will run in an upcoming primary. What you can do is remind them of Madison’s words and use the argument that was used here today!

What idi we learn yesterday?

Wednesday – June 9, 2010

What did we learn yesterday?

As the results of yesterday’s primary came in and were reported, we learned that liberty and freedom are alive and well in these United States.

We also learned, as the President launched his new push to educate us on his healthcare bill, the polls have not budged. 30% of Americans say the U.S. is headed in the right direction. This correlates to the 70 % that oppose the Presidents healthcare bill. 58% of Americans say “no” to citizenship for children of illegal immigrants.

Rasmussen Reports, the daily Presidential Tracking for Tuesday, shows 26% of the nation’s voters strongly approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing in his role as president. Forty –one percent (41%) strongly disapprove, giving Obama a presidential approval index of negative 15. I would like to get a fix on the makeup of those who approve. I can only imagine who they are!

To the people who still approve of Obama’s job performance: there is no reason to vote for a man of color, just because he is a man of color, or to vote for a man who says change is needed. There is no reason to support this man, because he is failing and the country you want so much from is now failing. There is no reason to vote a community agitator into the highest office of the land, let alone the world, because he said he can do a better job. The plain and simple fact is he has done nothing, nor has he gained the necessary experience in his short career, that makes him qualified to lead a nation and to lead the nation through a catastrophe. This is reason enough not to have voted for him

Yesterday was day 50 of the Gulf Oil spill. To day is day 51 and the President still has not talked to the Chairman of BP (British Petroleum). The president said yesterday that he wants to “kick some ass” because he doesn’t think enough is being done. Today, on day 51, the government will now reimburse rental property owners for the lost rental revenue of their beach front property on the Gulf, due to the spill. For those that voted for Obama, this is the money you thought you were going to get in your reimbursement package that you thought this man was going to give to you. For you that do not support this president, this is your tax dollars going to a few that could probably bare the season of lost rentals. The government said yesterday that the Gulf Coast will be better than before, after all the money is dispersed for the numerous programs of recovery. The answer to every problem under a liberal is to just throw money at it.

What we learned yesterday is that the primary results are in and they speak volumes. What we must keep in perspective are: terrorism, the Gulf disaster, the coming double dip recession and lastly, the 13 trillion dollar debt that is now poised to takeover our GDP – that’s the Gross Domestic Product, of our country. The GDP concern is likened to the home you bought 3 years ago at market price and the value of it today is less than the mortgage you owe on it. This single issue is this: what will be the failure of the Democrats in the fall? The spending issue is connecting to that simple minded voter that politicians want to take advantage of.

This is what was signaled by the Republican turnout yesterday. In just about all of the races, the Republican turn out was greater than it has ever been before. For instance, in the highly Democratic districts in Arlington, Fairfax and Mclean, all districts in Virginia, the Washington suburbs Republican turnout was 15% greater than it was two years ago. This turnout is the hidden story that has Democrats worried. It happened elsewhere too.

It doesn’t matter if Harry Reid will run on the Democratic ticket in the fall. It doesn’t matter if Blanche Lincoln will run on the Democratic ticket in the fall. What matters, is your involvement and your participation in the process. What matters is that you remember what our forefathers said and did for liberty and freedom. What matters is that you relate our history and the story of America, so that a leader is not elected by making empty promises or by using words that sound too good to be true. If you do this, then Harry and Blanche and the rest of the Democratic Party will be history.

What we learned yesterday is that it’s all about energy and the issues. Conservatives, Republicans and the Tea Party will unite and share the energy, because we own the solution to the issues. Reduce the size of government, reduce the impact of government on the tax payer, stop the spending and encourage personal responsibility. Listen to the President and his party they will tell you that they want to “kick ass”, but that is not the solution, it is only words of desperation.

If anything was learned yesterday, it should be what I have just said.
