What tomorow will bring?

What tomorrow will bring?

As much as I would like to talk about today and bring into perspective that our country still faces terror threats from abroad, soaring debt, immigration challenges in court and a jobless recovery here at home our attention will be drawn to the midterm elections tomorrow.

I will not be publishing tomorrow, because I am going to vote and watch the returns in the comfort of my own home. This is truly an American event. We are the only country in world history that has continued this tradition of expression for two plus centuries. Think about this. Two plus centuries of elections has brought us 111 Congresses and 44 presidents. There have also been numerous State Houses and Governors who have been defeated and elected. This is also a time when individual States can circumvent their State legislatures and let the people decide numerous ballot initiatives.

In all of this history, we have had an orderly transition of power when the elections have been decide by the people. This is the hallmark of our freedom, the people get to speak. No where else in the history of man have the people chartered their destiny in this fashion. This is the factor that we sometimes forget.

Tomorrow will bring a new Congress, Senate and numerous other State officials. Tomorrow will bring stories of voter fraud and TV anchors injecting their political leanings and views. Tomorrow will bring victory and defeat. Tomorrow will bring referendum and choice. Tomorrow will bring that orderly change when voters voice their leanings and their views. Tomorrow is all about being American and getting out and doing the job of a citizen! Tomorrow a Parliamentary Government will change back to a representative style Government, providing the Republican Party can take back the control of one and possibly two chamber’s from the ruling Democrat Party. 235 years ago our Revolution stopped a Parliamentary government and a King in his tracks.

Tomorrow the whole world will be watching the returns. Both friend and foe will be taking note on who is the victor!

To put things into historical context, on tomorrow’s date, in 2004, George Bush won a second term with 51% of the popular vote and in1824 the election was the first one in which the candidate who obtained the greatest number of popular votes, Andrew Jackson, failed to be elected president. Because Jackson did not receive a majority of electoral-college votes, the election was thrown to the House of Representatives. When John Quincy Adams was selected as president, Jackson's supporters claimed that the will of the people had been dismissed. However, this claim does not reflect certain voting realities of the time. While technically true, in 1824, the popular vote was not an accurate indicator of the will of the people. Very few states had all four candidates that were running for election on the ballot and six of the twenty-four states did not have a public vote, but chose their electors in the state legislature. This election, however, remains the only one in which a president was elected by the House of Representatives.

I bring up this historical event, because it puts into context the rules that were established, for a reason, by the Founding Fathers. These rules have withstood 235 years of history. The rules will survive another 235 years, if we remain vigilant and if we participate in the process. By participating we can take the power away from those who do not play by the rules and who do not care about the rules. If we participate in the process, a Congress can be voted out, because they have not played by the rules. This is why your participation of voting is the greatest contribution you can make to your country.

Tomorrow will bring the guarantee that the Constitution gives to you and me. Tomorrow will bring a job loss to those who have taken liberty and freedom away from those who participate in the growth of liberty and freedom daily by being good citizens who play by the rules.

I cannot wait until tomorrow. Tomorrow will also bring the start to the 2012 election.

A footnote: There is one day left until the political tide changes. You are the solution - the politicians you elect will become your voice and that is the change that we are asking for.
