Today an historic event is taking place in Washington D.C. Today Judge
Sotomayor is attending her first day of senate hearings as a nominee for
associate justice of the Supreme Court. While we listen to the
partisanship we should be considering a few things.
What did the judge mean when she said "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life" and secondly what did she mean when she said "the
appellate court's are where policy is made" These are two
striking comments and they go to the heart and soul of the nominee and of the President who nominated this person.
We should
celebrate her
accomplishments because they represent the American story. However, the American story that we all look for will change if she is nominated. This candidate would not bring the balance that is needed in the court. This nomination would not strengthen the court but weaken it by bringing in empathy, a code word for a different approach to the law. Both the President and the nominee has used this term. She has also used words like
inherent,
physiological or cultural differences.
The
hypocrisy is that if a white male used these words - that white male would have been dismissed long ago. Wise up people this is just another attempt to dumb the country down and move further left with the highest court in the land.
There seems to be a certain
narcissism in this nomination. We have put aside the racial question as voters by electing the Nation's first Black President. But the President has not put his racial question's aside because of this nomination.
The court was designed to be impartial it was designed to be the final arbiter in
constitutional issues and matters. How can we be satisfied that this nominee will apply the law fairly? We cannot be
totally satisfied because we know at the end of the day there will be a case that will fall in front of her that requires her impartial application of the law. From what we have seen so far in her 17 years as a judge the most publicized decisions have been overturned because of the lack of
impartiality.
This is the new normal that we are forced to live with. Our lives, the fairness the equal application of law to all citizens will suffer because of the
narcissism of the President and this nominee.
At the end of the day the President gets his legacy, the Judge gets a spot to move her leftist agenda and the Democrats get to placate to another minority group. And what does America as a whole get - just another assault from the elite social class. And the groups who really need the help well lets just say they are still there with no representation from those who say they have their best interest in mind.
Tomorrow we will discuss the 2
nd amendmant and the Judge.
